My commute allows me time to myself. I am on the train for about 45 minutes each morning and again each evening. It is what I call "me time" and of course, I READ!!!
I've never been a fast reader, but always a good one. I like to savor books and when they aren't good, I often don't finish them.
What I've read recently have been:
Atonement (I LOVED this book and owe a great deal to the reviews on here that said "stay with it, it starts off very slowly".) Also, the movie with James McAvoy was splendid.
Pompeii - a book that really confused me. I really don't like historical novels, and am not a fan of that period of time, but I was drawn to this book and am SO glad that I read it!!! It was delicious. It made me want to return to Naples and see things I hadn't seen or been aware of before. I have been to Pompeii, but wish I had read this before going. It would have spurred a craving to learn and made the trip much more fulfilling.
What Dreams May Come - Another book that was made into a film, but this one I never saw!! This was very unusual, sad and reassuring at the same time. I really enjoyed it.
Breakfast At Tiffany's - Haven't read this in over 20 years and liked it very much this time around. Truman is one of my all time favorite writers.
Music For Chameleons - More on my Truman kick for 2008. Excellent portraits of human energy. Loved it.
The Black Angel - cool book. Off the beaten track.
Lisey's Story - a Stephen King book that was very good.
